#monopfx: Best pedalboards of October 2020

We took a short break from our monthly pedalboard roundup, but we’re back with more fuel to inspire your next build.

Big boards, little boards — we don’t discriminate. Here are the top pedalboards that caught our eye this month for their clean layouts, tonal options and more.

The Lite Heavyweights

Do you believe that less is more? Musicians that belong to this camp turn to boards like our Pedalboard Lite to keep things trim on their tone hunt. No extra baggage allowed here — every effect unit counts.

How do you make the most of a tiny pedalboard?

Nelson Capote manages to squeeze in Shure’s wireless system, a HX Stomp with an external foot switch, and MXR’s Vintage Bass Octave Mini for good measure.

Paired with the Classic Tick Accessory Case 2.0 that attaches to a matching Classic Bass Guitar Case, and you have the ultimate grab-and-go bass solution around.

Masato Hirai takes a similar approach to his Pedalboard Lite.

Instead of a HX Stomp, this pedalboard features the powerful Eventide H9 multi-effects unit alongside some choice JHS Pedals.

Fortin Amps + Darkglass Electronics = metal for days.

This monochrome setup is one mean pedalboard that screams aggressive bass tone.

Pedalboard Classics

For the players that want the essentials and a little more. Here are our favorite Small and Medium builds of the month.

This is the first Pedalboard Carbon to make our monthly roundup and what an impressive build it is. We’re loving this highly coveted pedal collection and the super clean cabling.

Effects from left to right:

  • Line6 HX Stomp
  • GFI System Specular Tempus
  • Revv G4
  • Vemuram Jan Ray
  • Origin Effects Cali76
  • Ceriatone Centura
  • Vertex Effects Steel String Supreme

Top jacks truly save space.

This Medium pedalboard features some great units from EarthQuaker Devices and Strymon Engineering who champion the top-jack pedal design and make for a clean and well populated pedalboard.

This fun Pedalboard Medium build packs a serious punch with a dual H9 configuration, and plenty of gain for a complete tonal palette.

The other standout pedals for us here are the EarthQuaker Devices Hoof Reaper, Strymon Deco, and the JHS Pedals Colour Box V2.

Matt from Knobs and Noises does it again this month with this Pedalboard Medium in Silver.

This sleek build features some crowd favorites from Vemuram, Source Audio and Strymon with a fun choice of switcher in the form of the EarthQuaker Devices Swiss Things.
