Drummers, have you ever been envious of guitarists and bassists showing up to practice with fancy new pedals? Parading their new effects like it’s the best thing since sliced cheese while you’re just left there holding down the beat? Well as the saying goes, if you can’t beat ’em, you might as well join ’em.
Enter jazz and funk drummer Dan Mayo. One third of the band TATRAN, Dan Mayo has been an avid user of effect pedals to add extra sonic dimensions to his playing. And before you say electric drums aren’t your thing, we’ve got to stop you there. Dan Mayo uses these effects with analog drums – that is to say good ol’ wooden-ply drums.
Check out the sounds he gets with them. Thoroughly massive if you ask us!
