What You Need To Know About Drum Cases

As passionate musicians, we’re always looking for ways to stay up to date and informed about the best ways to care for our instruments. Today, it’s all about drums. When it comes to storing and travelling with these sometimes cumbersome pieces of equipment, there’s some basic information which we think will be a lot of help to other tub-thumpers out there.

Hard cases

Hard cases are best for touring or if you’re moving your gear a lot between locations, whether it’s from home to the recording or rehearsal studios or somewhere further away. You’ll be looking for anything that can do a good job of protecting your drums from dust, bumps and scratches.

Soft cases

If budget is an issue or if you need simple, easy storage, then soft cases are the best bet. As with hard cases, you’ll still be looking for anything that gives you the best protection but are also easy to carry. It’s worth mentioning that it’s a good idea to measure your drums so you know the case that you buy, sort or otherwise, will be a good fit.

Cymbal bags

It’s vital that cymbals get adequate protection as they can often be surprisingly delicate pieces of kit when they’re not being used for performance. Make sure the materials and carry handles are all of a decent standard before buying.

Stand cases

Cymbal stands and other such gear will need their own cases. You should ensure that whatever you use has enough space or compartments to secure all your equipment without the risk of them being packed so tightly that they will damage one another.

Sticks and accessories

Whether you’re using sticks or brushes, you’ll need something that ensures they can be safely stored when you’re not making a racket with them, particularly wooden sticks which can be at risk from extreme temperatures as well as the usual risk of breakage. If you have any other knick-knacks such as cowbells then you’ll want to make sure they have the right sort of case as well.
