#monopfx: Best pedalboards of August 2020

New month, new boards. We review our favorite pedalboard submissions of August 2020 to inspire you for your next build.

Big boards, little boards — we don’t discriminate. Here are seven pedalboards that caught our eye for their clean layouts, tonal options and more.

The Lite Heavyweights

Prefer to travel light? Musicians that belong to this camp turn to boards like our Pedalboard Lite to keep things trim on their tone hunt. No extra baggage allowed here — every effect unit counts.

This two-unit Lite board packs a punch with two of the latest pedals from TC Electronic and Walrus Audio. The Ages Five-State Overdrive provides a myriad of tone with it’s five “flavor” profiles that can be further refined by your standard overdrive controls as well as the dry blend.

The Plethora X5 brings TC Electronic’s TonePrint functionality to the next level giving you access to five pedal slots, 75 TonePrints PER effect, 127 board presets and the ability to easily swap the order of your effects.

Matt (aka Knobs and Noises) is back again with more fun pedalboard builds. This mini build features a great pair from Pedal Pawn, the Vemuram Shanks ODS-1 and Source Audio’s Collider to round things off.

Pedalboard Classics

For the players that want the essentials and a little more. Here are our favorite Small and Medium builds of the month.

Maximum MIDI functionality on a Small pedalboard? Easy.

Jason pairs his HX Stomp and GFI Specular Tempus with Morningstar Engineering’s newest and most powerful controller, the MC8. Top that off with a few more pedals and the sky’s the limit.

This isn’t a combination of effects you see everyday.

Plenty of gain options here with some standouts in the form of Hudson Electronic’s Broadcast-AP and Shin Suzuki’s legendary Dumbloid.

The HX Stomp meets a family of Electro-Harmonix on this build. Can’t say we don’t love it!

A Medium pedalboard for the modern musician.

This build features some of the “big board” essentials like the Strymon Big Sky, BOSS’ DD-500, MIDI control courtesy of Morningstar’s MC6, a great selection of Walrus Audio, and of course, another HX Stomp.

Go big or go home

Big isn’t always better, but big is always big — and sometimes pretty epic. That’s what our Large pedalboards are for.

This pedalboard is larger than life.

Mike, the winner of our recent “Let’s Fuzzin’ Do This” giveaway managed to integrate some of his old pedals into this build to take tweaking and sound exploration to the next level.

Frankly, we’re blown away.
